Windows Guest Instances Have No Sound

Windows guest instances (Virtual Desktops) do not find any Audio hardware.

By adding sound to the global setting allow.additional.vm.configuration.list.kvm...

...CloudMonkey can add this extraconfig.

Then, after power cycling the VM, the issue is resolved.

It does not feel like a feature request, but a "bug" to the default global settings.

Interesting that you mentioned you could not see these pictures or the pictures from the other issue. I am using another computer and another GitHub account, and I can see them. And yes, it is hard to show a picture of no sounds hahahahha

A Root Admin must first allow sound in the ACS global settings.

Then, the person managing the Windows VM can enable it at the instance-level settings.

After that, the Windows VM will detect the virtual audio device and enable the sound capabilities.

If you’re asking about other operating systems, as far as I know, this only affects Windows.

For example, I use a Linux VM daily via remote desktop, and sound has always worked out of the box (no extra setup needed).

To make it easy for users, including sound in the list of default values for this field would get us halfway.

The other half could be accomplished the same way as with TPM, by providing a UI toggle for the feature.

If we want to over-deliver, this toggle could be automatically present (not necessarily enabled) when the template has an OS Type in the Windows land.

Count on me to update documentation on whatever solution the team comes up with.
