Github Copilot Free not resetting usage

GitHub Copilot Free isn’t updating my usage. It initially told me to wait until the end of the month, but now it’s February, and the issue persists. I first got the notification in January but was able to use it for a while before seemingly hitting a limit—though I don’t think I actually did. I let it go and used my ChatGPT Plus account outside Visual Studio while waiting for access to return, but it still shows the same message. I tried both my work and personal accounts, and they both have the same issue. I'm considering purchasing Copilot Pro to see if it resolves the problem, but I shouldn't have to do this.

Try these steps:

• Check billing settings on GitHub.
• Log out and log back in to Visual Studio.
• Check GitHub status for any ongoing issues.
• If it still doesn't work, contact GitHub support.

I have the same problem, did you contact support or was this resolved?

Never resolved, my workaround was to upgrade to Pro, and that worked but we should not have to do this.

It's 2026, I have the same issue. I go to my Copilot settings page to check usage, and although it says that my usage should have reset by now, it does not. Does the information shown on the settings page differ from the usage applied? What I mean is, in spite of the settings page showing that I have reached 100%, does Copilot use this same false information to impede me from making new requests and code completions, or will it allow me to continue using them, pulling from other, more accurate source?

P.S.: Maybe Github Copilot is biased against people with the last name "Ortega". ;)

I have this exact same issue and as @Rbel12b it should have reset on the 16:th.
Not sure if it ever really has reset cause I have not been using it that much and not checked in that often on the usage.
If anyone finds a solution to the issue I'm greatful if they would post it here for all of us to know what to do.

Same problem. And it's not the first time. Guess free AI starts to be difficult to offer even in reduced ways.

@FOAcode By "it's not the first time", do you mean that it has fixed itself for you before (though perhaps not when it was supposed to reset?

@naortega First time it happened around November last year. It did reset eventually the month after without me doing anything. Now it has happened again this month.

I assume the free plan is starting to have some monetary weight on their side and a bug is a temporary (and funny) solution till they figure it out. On the user side for occasional use it would be nice to have a pay per use solution without any monthly subscription.
